CHAPTER ELEVEN

The business they had scheduled was accomplished quickly. It looked like either their clients were desperate for what Lombe was selling, or the captain had already worked through pricing and haggling before they landed. Whatever the reason, they arrived, collected their merch, and left little more than a word or two between them.

Better still, the money appeared in their account a minute after the transaction occurred, which meant they were good for the creds too. Business was rarely ever that smooth in their line of work, but Jozzun was always happy for it in those rare instances where people came to buy and paid for what they walked away with without putting up too much of a fight.

It was enough for them to top the ship up with fuel and supplies, and Lombe left the work of loading those to his first officers while he headed out to deal with their contact.

"What's the situation with this Malova anyway?" Daria asked and raised an eyebrow once the captain had left the ship. "And is there any reason why Lombe is heading out to deal with her without any muscle?"

"You're forgetting that he is enough muscle on his own," he pointed out with smirk. "It might be that the captain is soft on her. From what I understand about humans, she is quite attractive and virile despite the fact that she's over eighty years old."

Daria leaned over as he showed her a quick view of what the woman in question looked like on his tablet and both her eyebrows rose in response.

"Shit, that's not a bad look for eighty," she whispered and shook her head. "How does she do it?"

"Everyone has a different theory about it." Jozzun pocketed his tablet again. "Genetics, implants, something like that. Some people think she's not pure human and has something else mixed in there that slows the aging process. For myself, I like to think Malova might not be the same person she was when she originally started. She's an institution among smugglers, so there’s a good chance someone else stole the role, or maybe it was passed on from one to the other. If so, we might be looking at the third or fourth Malova. Either way, it doesn't matter. She is very selective about her clients and her connections, which means anyone who gets to work with her comes away happy, for the most part."

She tilted her head and nodded. "I approve. And I guess that would be why I've never heard of her before, especially if she keeps to herself. I doubt I would have ever been considered as someone she would want to do business with."

"Why is that?" He was genuinely curious.

"You already know that the crowds I've run with have never been the classiest."

"I'm sure you'll get to meet her someday but for the moment, I think she wanted to meet only with the captain. If all goes well, she'll send people with the markers for our product and he'll
